Duran worked as a Study Director at Microbiological Associates, Inc. from 1988 to 1990.
She then worked at Surmodics, Inc. from 1990 to 2010, where she held the position of Vice President of Research from 2009 to 2010.
Duran received her undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland in 1977 and her doctorate from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in 1984.
