Silk Road Project Inc is a nonprofit social impact organization and touring ensemble that fosters cultural collaboration, inclusivity, and hope through music inspired by the historical Silk Road. The private company is based in Boston. Under the artistic direction of Rhiannon Giddens, the organization brings together musicians from diverse backgrounds to create a unique musical language blending various traditions, producing both contemporary and traditional works that reflect modern society. Silk Road Project engages underserved and diverse communities—including urban, rural, indigenous, refugee, and carceral populations—through performances, workshops, residencies, and educational partnerships with universities and schools worldwide. Its programs include multidisciplinary projects such as "American Railroad," which highlights the contributions of immigrant and indigenous communities to history through music, visual arts, documentaries, and public engagement. The organization also offers artist training through the Musician Workshop and supports emerging arts professionals with paid internships focused on equity, social justice, and allyship.
