Headquartered in Tokyo, the firm was founded in 1986 as STB Capital Management Co., Ltd. They became Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Asset Management Co., Ltd. in 2012 when STB Asset Management Co., Ltd. merged with Sumishin Asset Management Co., Ltd. and Chuo Mitsui Asset Management Co., Ltd. SMTAM provides market coverage and sales support for Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank's Japanese equity investment strategies to institutional investors and intermediaries in the UK, Europe, Middle East and Asia.
