The firm was founded as Bancredito Administradora de Fondos Mutuos SA in 1988 to distribute mutual funds as an investment alternative for companies, as a vehicle for managing their cash surpluses. Headquartered in Santiago, Compass Chile was founded by Jaime de la Barra in 1996 to manage locally-registered funds and advise institutional and private clients on global investments.

AFP Cuprum SA (Investment Management) (AFP Cuprum-IM) is the pension fund management division of AFP Cuprum SA (SA: CUPRUM), a majority-owned subsidiary of Principal Financial Group, Inc. (NYSE: PFG) in the US. The firm was founded in 2012 and is headquartered Santiago. AFP Cuprum-IM provides clients with social security advice and manage the pension fund.
