The firm was founded as Ruffer Investment Management Ltd. in 1994 by Jonathan Ruffer, Jane Tufnell, and Earl Ferrers. In 2004, they transferred their investment business to Ruffer LLP. Thornhill Investment Management Ltd. is a fund management firm and subsidiary of Thornhill Holdings Ltd. which is in turn part of the Cazenove Capital Group. In 2009, Cazenove Capital Group acquired the Thornhill Group of companies. Thornhill traces their origins to 1985. Based in London with a branch office in Edinburgh, in 2003 the firm's business was merged with Martin Currie Private Clients Ltd.
