Cheng Michael

Michael Cheng is an experienced investor who specializes in detailed assessments of a companies’ prospects, competitively, operationally and financially.
Having spent time in engineering, sales and marketing, before working in several investment banks and investment funds, with a particular focus on technology and Asia, he is unusually experienced in understanding new companies and how they can grow in the existing business environment.
Operationally, Mr. Cheng began his career in IBM and Xerox working in computer systems operation and software implementation in a semiconductor fab.
He also served as a sales engineer at Teradyne, Inc. and Sun Microsystems, and after business school worked at Dell Computer Corp.
in brand marketing.
Financially, he worked on the sell-side as a research analyst for Montgomery Securities, which subsequently became Banc of America Securities, and Salomon Smith Barney, which was subsequently acquired by Citibank.
On the buy-side, he worked as a senior research analyst at both Primarius Capital (San Francisco) and Clairvoyance Capital (Taiwan), before starting his own consulting/investment company, Insight Strategies and Research.
He has a combined Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley and a Masters of Business Administration degree from Harvard University.
