Swanson Matthew

Mr. Swanson is a Managing Director and the Deputy General Counsel of Proterra Investment Partners.
Prior to joining Proterra, Mr. Swanson worked at Wayzata Investment Partners, a private equity firm focused on providing direct loans to middle-market borrowers, acquiring controlling interests through a distressed debt acquisition strategy, and directly acquiring assets in dislocated industries.
As a Principal on the investment team, Mr. Swanson was responsible for diligencing, negotiating and structuring investments, for managing workouts and restructurings, and for advising Wayzata’s funds and portfolio companies on a wide range of legal and strategic initiatives.
Mr. Swanson began his career at the law firm of Latham & Watkins and subsequently worked at several law firms in Chicago where he represented borrowers and lenders in a variety of financing, restructuring and M&A-related engagements.
Mr. Swanson holds a Master of Laws in Food and Agriculture from the University of Arkansas, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, a Juris Doctor from the University of Southern California, and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan.
