The firm was founded by Stephen Burke and John Pickart in 2005 as Pelagos Capital Management LLC. Their name was changed to Franklin Alternatives Strategies Advisers LLC in January 2009 following Franklin Resources' acquisition of the firm in 2013. They are owned by Franklin Templeton Institutional LLC, a subsidiary of Franklin Resources, Inc. (NYSE: BEN). FASA provides investment advisory and portfolio management services under management agreements with investment products throughout the world.

SSgA Funds Management, Inc. (SSgA FM) is a registered investment advisor and mutual fund manager headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. The firm was founded in 1978 and is a subsidiary of State Street Global Advisors, Inc., ultimately held by State Street Corp. (NYSE: STT). SSgA FM provides investment advisory services to US investment companies and certain pooled investment vehicles.
