Mr. Stein has been an active private equity investor, facilitating the growth of a range of early stage companies, with a particular focus on operational controls, human resources management and general business administration.
Mr. Stein's private investments include Kozmo.com, Intellibridge Corporation, Omnipod, Tech-trader and BuildTopia, among others, as well as limited partnership positions in Jefferson Capital Partners, Plaza Street Capital and Women's Growth Capital Fund.
As a Managing Director at WGCF, he serves on the Board of Directors of Peoples Pottery, and is an active board advisor to Destiny Websolutions.
Mr. Stein served as Chief of Staff, Department of Commerce from 1993 through 1995.
During his tenure at the Department, he coordinated administration of the office of the Secretary.
He was actively involved in building and promoting international commercial relationships, facilitating an open environment for international investment and cross-border trade.
Previously Mr. Stein served as CEO of The Forum Institute, a consulting firm that facilitated collaboration among investors in the not-for-profit sector, and as a social entrepreneur, working to advance a range of issues.
Mr. Stein began his career as an attorney, working initially for the Citizen's Communication Center, a public interest law firm representing women, minorities and special interest groups, and subsequently at the Federal Communications Commission.
He is a member of the Private Investors Network, a network of venture capitalists from Washington, D.C.
and the Virginia and Maryland suburbs, and the eMedia Club, a Northern Virginia-based "Angel" investor organization.
Mr. Stein received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Antioch College and a Juris Doctor degree from the George Washington University.
