Terranol A/S develops yeasts to be applied in second generation bioethanol production. Its second generation bioethanol is produced from agricultural wastes, such as wheat straw, sugar cane bagasse, corn stover, and wood chips. It has developed industrial yeasts that converts all sugars and also the sugar xylose in biomass into ethanol. The company's technology Terranol Strain V-1 ferments glucose and xylose into ethanol with high yield and low production of the byproduct xylitol. Terranol was founded by Thomas Hvid Andersen, Birgitte Rønnow, and Ole Sibbesen in October 2007 and is headquartered in Kongens Lyngby, Denmark.
