Jürgen Bierbaumer-Polly

Dr. Jürgen Bierbaumer-Polly is a Senior Economist at Österreichisches Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung.
He has been working in the WIFO Research Group "Macroeconomics and European Economic Policy" since 2011.
His field of activity essentially comprises two main areas: On the one hand, he is responsible as the project manager for the calculation of the quarterly GDP Flash Estimates.
In addition to sound theoretical and methodological knowledge, this also requires ongoing observation and assessment of the recent economic environment, not only nationally but also internationally.
In addition, he deals with the topic of Beyond GDP, in which not only economic but also social and ecological aspects play an important role in measuring a country's prosperity.
On the other hand, he is an expert in the areas of private consumption and trade.
His most significant tasks in this area include ongoing economic monitoring and analysis, as well as applied research projects on these topics.
In his academic research, he focuses primarily on the phenomenon of business cycles, both at the international, national, regional, and company levels.
He is also a lecturer at the Vienna University of Economics and Business as an expert on national accounting, and a member of numerous expert committees.
His studies of economics brought him to Australia (University of Tasmania, Hobart; BEc) and Germany (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich; MA and dissertation).
