Daniel V.
Santi, M.D., Ph.D., aged 63 years, was the co-founders and has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors since our inception in January 1995 and as our Chief Executive Officer since November 1998.
Until his retirement in January 2001, he was on leave of absence from his position as Professor of Biochemistry and Biophysics, and of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at University of California, San Francisco, a position that he held since 1974.
He was one of the original members of the Scientific Advisory Boards of Chiron Corporation and Mitotix, Inc., and has served as a consultant to several large pharmaceutical companies.
In 1988, he founded and served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Protos, Inc., a biotechnology firm and a subsidiary of Chiron Corporation, which was merged with Chiron in 1992.
He was also founder and Chairman of Parnassus Pharmaceuticals.
He has published over 275 scientific papers and is inventor on many patents in combinatorial chemistry and other areas.
He received a B.S.
in pharmacy from the State University of New York, an M.D.
from the University of California, San Francisco and a Ph.D.
in medicinal chemistry from the State University of New York.
