Educated at Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he received a BSc.
He then joined IBM and spent several years with the company before attending the Harvard Business School where he obtained an MBA.
Subsequently, he joined the Bankers Trust Company and, after becoming a Vice President, he returned to London for them where he was instrumental in helping to start up and develop a number of successful companies.
He left to join the Rothschild Group as an Executive Director of a number of industrial and other holdings before becoming Joint Managing Director of New Court & Partners.
He left in 1977 to co-found Thompson Clive & Partners.
