Atherton is a Director at EFG Private Bank Ltd.
He launch a career in stockbroking in 1986 in The City where he traded equities and options for clients of several London firms.
However, in the 1990s Mr. Atherton returned to the Midlands to provide discretionary management solutions for companies, trusts, local government and wealthy individuals regarding their pensions (SIPPs, SSASs), off-shore bonds, taxable portfolios and ISAs.
Previously at Albert E Sharp, then Quilter and having set up the Rathbones' Birmingham office, EFG Harris Allday recognised the opportunity that is RDR and tasked him to build a business focussing on discretionary investment management for clients of professional advisers.
Mr. Atherton's investment solutions adopt an absolute return overlay utilising a "matrix" of risk management inputs and diversification.
