From January 1990 to June 1999, he was a Partner of Winthrop, Stimson, Putnam & Roberts.
He received a BS from the School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University, an MBA from the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University and a JD from the Cornell Law School.
